See the below diagram. In short, you can print with EDIBLE INK to EDIBLE PAPER, or to REGULAR PAPER. This way you can make more use out of your edible ink printer, in cases where you would otherwise leave it idle - use it for your regular paper print jobs, it is still cheaper to print with edible ink to regular paper than it is to have a separate printer using original brand cartridges.
But you should never print with REGULAR INK on any printer that is also being used for edible ink printing.
